SONG OF A GIRL
In her new program and studio album jazz singer Anna Margolina turns yiddish poetry into music. The poems were written by Anna Margolin (1887-1952), with whom the singer shares not only her name, but also her country of origin. The result embodies a broad, melodic and contemporary view on jazz: embracing elements of folk, soul and electronics, presented with a strong collective of well-known and versatile musicians. As in her debut album “One Endless Night” (2023, XJAZZ! Music) Anna processes her family history, this time she goes back even further: to her great-grandparents, whose language has been lost in the diaspora. The songs were co-written with bassist Paul Kleber; Arseny Rykov plays piano and Martin Krümmling drums and electronics. The band successfully sold out jazz clubs such as ZigZag in Berlin, played in cultural institutions like Exilmuseum Berlin and travelled abroad to Black Forest Jazzfestival, Jüdisch-Israelische Kulturtage Thüringen, Jazzfestival Lech in Austria & more.
Anna Margolina vertont in ihrem neuen Programm und Studioalbum Jiddische Gedichte der Lyrikerin Anna Margolin (1887–1952), mit der sie nicht nur den Namen, sondern auch ihr Herkunftsland teilt. Jazz verbindet sich mit Elementen aus Folk, Soul und Elektronik. Wie auch in ihrem Debütalbum “One Endless Night” (XJAZZ! Music) verarbeitet die Sängerin hier ihre Familiengeschichte. Vor allem geht es ihr aber um die ewige Suche nach Identität und einer Verständigung mit einander, trotz oder gerade wegen unserer Unterschiede. Erstmals treten Eigenkompositionen in Erscheinung: die Songs schreibt sie zusammen mit dem über die Landesgrenzen bekannten Bassisten Paul Kleber, Piano spielt Arseny Rykov und Schlagzeug mit elektronischen Plug-Ins: Martin Krümmling. Die Band ist auf renommierten Bühnen zu hören wie Laeiszhalle Hamburg, ZigZag Jazzclub Berlin, Jüdisches Museum Berlin & München, Black Forest Jazzfestival, Jüdisch-Israelische Kulturtage Thüringen, Jazzbühne Lech (AU).
